I left a comment on Sela's blog, but this is so relevant - so many are focused on how this is an issue for epublished authors - but digital publishing is impacting EVERY author, even those print published.

I am heartened to know that RWChange is being heard by the board. Constructive conversation has begun. Education for all members is a necessity. I just spoke to a print author who is just dipping her toe into the e-pub world. She stated she felt out of her safe zone because her normal place for education on her witing career (RWA) did not have the necessary information for her.

What we, RWA, has to do is realize that digital publishing is here to stay. Now the question is...will my organization step up and help me or not?

Ms. Harte made some very good points here about "a thoughtful" education for all. That is what we simply must have.

Well said, Treva.
I've been talking to print pubbed authors for years about this. Their agents were using the e-pubbing clauses as giveaways to publishers in contracts and they said their e-sales were low, compared to their print sales.
They still are, but they should be asking for a much higher royalty than most of them get. Otherwise the publishers will be making much higher overheads, overheads that just aren't fair to the author. Low sales won't mean that much, then, and when the print publishers promote e-sales more aggressively, the writer will lose out.

Thank you for reminding us again that print published authors now have to navigate the e-world as well. Maintaining ignorance about the e-publishing market hurts all authors, not just the e-published ones.

Exactly, Ms. Harte. I love the way you describe the relationship between an eauthor and the publisher. A partnership.
That's exactly how I think of it. Thank you.

Excellent post, Treva. This exactly highlights why digital rights information and awareness is important to all authors.

Great post, Treva. By providing an education on e-publishing, RWA will only help their members, not harm them.
